When it was revealed that Quicksilver was going to show up in X-Men: Days of Future Past, the majority of comic book fans assumed that Fox had only thrown the character in as a way of spiting Marvel Studios (who had at that time already cast Aaron Taylor-Johnson in the role for Avengers: Age of Ultron), but it’s fair to say that everyone was shocked when Evan Peters’ version ended up stealing the show.
His Quicksilver is set to take on an even more significant role in the sequel, and the actor had this to say about what a huge movie X-Men: Apocalypse actually is during a recent interview:
“It’s the biggest X-Men film. It’s about the apocalypse, so the scope of the film is huge.”
That sounds great, but isn’t anything we don’t already know. Well, here’s where things get really interesting. Peters went on to reveal why exactly Quicksilver is going to return in this movie:
“The story is that my character is searching for his father and wants to find him. It starts there and then he jumps on the X-Men train and gets sucked up in this whole Apocalypse madness: He tries to stop him from destroying the world.”
If you’re a comic book fan, you’ll no doubt already be well aware that Quicksilver’s father is Magneto, a character set to become one of Apocalypse’s Four Horsemen in X-Men: Apocalypse. Marvel Studios is unable to explore this relationship, so the fact that this movie is going to delve into it gives Fox a major advantage.
Of course, how big of a role that will end up playing remains to be seen (there’s still no mention of Scarlet Witch also being introduced here for example), but this just gives us one more reason to be excited for X-Men: Apocalypse.
