Upon doing the rounds for his role in Sam Mendes’ soon-to-be-released Spectre, Dave Bautista has teased much more screentime – and perhaps a new look – for Drax in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.
Now that director James Gunn has assembled quite the emotional script for Guardians 2, it’s only a matter of time before Marvel’s galactic sequel enters production in earnest, and the fighter-turned-actor can hardly wait to reprise the role of Drax the Destroyer in time for 2017’s sequel.
[zergpaid]Filming is set to take place in Atlanta, Georgia at the turn of the year, when Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Vin Diesel and Bradley Cooper will all return in their respective roles. In terms of Bautista, though, the actor revealed that he pitched his own ideas to Marvel about potential changes to the character’s visual appearance – tattoos, mainly – adding that even if Drax remains the same hot-headed rampaging badass from the original, there will be plenty more screentime for the galaxy’s most menacing anti-hero in Vol. 2.
“I put in my two cents with Marvel because I thought Drax needed a few more tattoos,” he revealed. “I had some specific ideas, but what they want to do with Drax at the end of the day is up to the Powers That Be. But we are coming back, and there is going to be a lot more Drax.”
While many were initially skeptical about Bautista’s comedic abilities, the actor effectively knocked it out of the park in last year’s blockbuster – a surprise that was indicative of Guardians as a whole – and any news of an expanded role for Drax the Destroyer is certainly worth getting excited about.
James Gunn will return to helm his ragtag motley crew when Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 blasts into theaters on May 5, 2017.
