It was recently revealed that John Wick directors Chad Stahelski and David Leitch would no longer be helming the sequel together, with the former set to tackle the movie by himself. Well, we now know what Leitch will be doing next, as it has been revealed today that he’s going to direct upcoming spy thriller The Coldest City, a movie which Charlize Theron (Mad Max: Fury Road) is attached to star in.
Just as they were originally set to co-direct John Wick 2, Stahelski and Leitch were also going to work on The Coldest City together. Now, they’re obviously splitting up and tackling these projects separately, but why?
Well, it doesn’t sound like we need to worry about them not working together again in future, as The Wrap reveals that Theron could only shoot The Coldest City this fall, which would clash with John Wick 2, hence they the filmmakers have split for the time being. However, it’s mentioned that there’s absolutely no acrimony between the two.
Kurt Johnstad wrote The Coldest City, which is based on the Oni Press graphic novel by Antony Johnston. Here’s a brief synopsis courtesy of the trade:
The story follows an underground MI6 officer who is killed just before the fall of the Berlin Wall. Theron is play a spy who must find a list he was smuggling into the West to protect herself and the counter-intelligence community.
