Lionsgate’s Robin Hood: Origins is heating up, as production is set to get underway quite shortly. Before that happens, however, the film needs a cast, and today we’re hearing of a shortlist for the female lead.
Currently, the studio has their eyes on “The Knick‘s Irish-born Eve Hewson, Dutch actress Gaite Jansen (Supernova), Australian thesp Lucy Fry (Vampire Academy) and British actress Gugu Mbatha-Raw (Belle). Whoever’s chosen will star alongside Taron Egerton, who’s already scored the iconic, titular role.
In the director’s chair for this version of the classic story is Otto Bathurst, who’s said to be delivering a “gritty, revisionist take” on the Robin Hood tale. Knights of the Roundtable: King Arthur‘s Joby Harold is on scripting duties and his story is said to follow the legendary hero as he returns from “fighting in The Crusades and finds that Sherwood Forest is rife with corruption and evil. He forms a band of outlaws and they take matters into their own hands.”
No offers have been made to any of the actresses just yet, but Lionsgate is apparently eager to get going on this one as there are already several competing Robin Hood projects in various stages of production around Hollywood. So, with that in mind, we should have more on this very soon.
For now, however, tell us, who would you like to see take the female lead in Robin Hood: Origins?
