We’re almost six months out from the much-touted Dawn of Justice, and even so far out excitement for Zack Snyder’s titanic showdown is sending the Internet into one big collective tail-spin. It’s for this reason that each week brings new rumors to sift through and fan theories to debate over, along with comments from the director himself. The latest tidbit to slip from the Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice production line comes via Jeremy Irons.

On board to play Bruce Wayne’s trusty butler Alfred Pennyworth, the actor is said to be much more involved in the operations of The Caped Crusader in Warner’s ensemble piece, and Irons himself even went so far as to say that fans can expect a “completely different” rendition of Batman’s aide-de-camp.

During the Toronto International Film Festival, the British actor spoke about a great many things relating to Dawn of Justice with Toronto Sun, including the Detroit shoot, the beauty of working in massive tentpole films, and how the movie will in many ways act as a reincarnation of the beloved character.

“It was a month in Detroit, which as actually longer than you’d imagine. But big films move slowly. It’s like a huge oil tanker. Zack Snyder, the director, wanted to create a completely different Alfred. So I felt like I didn’t have to carry any baggage from previous one’s. It’s sort of a reincarnation if you’d like. I had a feeling I was creating my own Alfred, more of a man who can actually do anything if he has to.”

While the memory of Michael Caine playing Batman’s butler will still be fresh in the memory for many a moviegoer, it’ll be interesting to see how audiences take to Irons’ new take on the character. Could it be that Batman’s loyal servant plays an instrumental role in the vigilante’s reign of terror? Time will tell.

Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice will ease the DC Expanded Universe into motion when Zack Snyder’s superhero face-off lands in theaters on March 25, 2016.
