Fox May Replace The Fantastic Four Sequel With Deadpool 2

By now everyone's well aware that Fantastic Four was a massive disappointment for Fox. The film got railed by critics and is not expected to make a whole lot at the box office. While the initial plan was to put a sequel into motion and eventually start a franchise, the studio is apparently switching gears.

By now, everyone’s well aware that Fantastic Four was a massive disappointment for Fox. The film got hammered by critics and is not expected to make a whole lot at the box office. While the initial plan was to put a sequel into motion and eventually start a franchise, the studio is apparently switching gears.

According to The Daily Superhero, Fox is looking to swap out Fantastic Four 2 with Deadpool 2, which they’re hoping to fast-track. If the studio moves ahead with this, that means the Merc with a Mouth’s sequel will hit on June 9th, 2017, which is when the Fantastic Four follow-up was originally scheduled. It also means that the sequel would be releasing only 16 months after the first film, which may mean we get a final product that’s rushed and sloppily put together.

While this is all unconfirmed, the rumor goes on to state that a Deadpool sequel would likely include Cable, the son of Cyclops, which would probably tie together this film and the X-Men franchise. Could this mean that we’ll get a Deadpool/X-Men crossover instead of the planned Fantastic Four/X-Men crossover? It’s certainly possible, as right now it seems that Fox’s plans for their superhero universe are up in the air.

Of course, it would be foolish to say that Deadpool will be a definite hit. Expectations are high, and people are certainly excited for it, but there’s still a chance that it could turn out to be a bomb, like Fantastic Four was. However, the odds of that are pretty low at this stage and given that Fox wants to fast-track the sequel means that they likely have a lot of confidence in the project. Time will tell, though.

Tell us, would you like to see the studio replace Fantastic Four 2 with a sequel to Deadpool? Or do you think the super-powered family should get another chance on the big screen? Sound off below!
