Following its rip-roaring reveal earlier this year, all has been quiet on the Need for Speed front. However, with Gamescom now right around the corner, EA and developer Ghost Games are primed to rev the reboot’s engines, with a new trailer and gameplay details expected in the coming days.

Not only that, the public trade show – due to take place from August 6 to August 9 – will also host the racer’s first playable build, allowing members of the public to get behind the wheel of the studio’s much-anticipated reboot. From what we understand, the demo will spotlight the customization options making a return to this year’s Need for Speed, with players getting the chance to stylize their ride before taking to the streets of Ventura Bay – a fictionalized version of Los Angeles.

As for the game’s presentation, we can expect EA to lift the lid on a hoard of new details during its Gamescom conference, which has been slated forĀ 12:30 AM PDT / 3:30 AM EDT on August 5. Will we finally learn more about Need for Speed‘s much touted storyline? Time will tell.

In related news, last week brought news that the mega-publisher was unsure whether a new installment in the long-running series would be released in 2016. Given that this year’s reboot represents the first Need for Speed title in two years, Swedish dev Ghost Games has been granted with an extended development window to take the series back to its roots – inspired by the likes of Carbon and Underground – so it’s understandable that EA is apprehensive about annualizing the NFS franchise again so soon after a brief hiatus.

Stay tuned to We Got This Covered throughout the course of Gamescom when we’ll be bringing you all the latest news. Need for Speed, on the other hand, hits PS4, Xbox One and PC on November 3.
