After years of chatter about a prequel to David Wain’s 2001 cult comedy Wet Hot American Summer, Netflix finally stepped up to the plate and green-lit a miniseries reteaming the co-writer/director with a stacked cast of comedy all-stars. Now, the first full trailer for the series, Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp, has arrived, and it’s an absolute riot.
The limited eight-episode series unfolds over the course of everyone’s first day at Camp Firewood back in the summer of 1981. Inexplicably, Wain was able to pull together literally everyone who appears in his movie, despite their staggeringly busy schedules, and also tap a bevy of newcomers for the prequel, including Jon Hamm, Kristen Wiig, John Slattery and Jordan Peele.
Netflix has been having a killer year so far thanks to Marvel’s Daredevil, Grace and Frankie and the third seasons of House of Cards and Orange is the New Black, and there’s no reason that hot streak shouldn’t continue when Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp drops on July 31.
