The future of the WB/DC Cinematic Universe is shrouded in much more secrecy than the competing Marvel Cinematic Universe at the moment, which is giving scoopster sites like Latino-Review plenty of opportunity to speculate and turn the handle on the ever-present rumor mill. Today, in the wake of a report about the Green Lantern potentially including multiple Lanterns, like Hal Jordan, John Stewart and Guy Gardner, the site is predicting that Comic-Con will see the unveiling of the entire Justice League lineup – including Chris Pine, not as Wonder Woman love interest Steve Trevor, but actually as Lantern Hal Jordan.
Now, according to Latino-Review, the concept of multiple Lanterns is accurate, and Comic-Con will see the unveiling of not one but two of the ring-wearing superheroes – Hal Jordan and John Stewart. The site’s report says that:
Pine was rumored to be a candidate for Hal Jordan way back when we realized Ryan Reynolds would never float in a green suit again, and the rumors of Pine circling Wonder Woman were actually Pine closing in on the role of Hal Jordan.
If that’s true, WB and DC have been playing fans rather cunningly, though it did seem odd in retrospect that the studios would cast a love interest ahead of a key Justice League member. According to Latino-Review, Pine has the role of Jordan on lock, and the part of Lantern John Stewart is also being figured out, with Common and Tyrese Gibson in contention. Obviously, with Common taking on a part in Suicide Squad, he’s out of the running for the part of a same-universe Justice League member, so that leaves Gibson, last seen in Furious 7, as the apparent pick.
This is all speculation, especially about Gibson possibly playing Stewart, but it definitely makes some sense when you think about Pine’s star power. He’s been in the mix to play various superheroes over the years, and I could see fans being happy with him landing the part of Hal Jordan.
All of our questions may (or may not) be answered at this year’s Comic-Con.
