Questions will be answered when Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension creeps into theaters this October, that much we know. However, now, the franchise’s long-time producer, Jason Blum, has claimed that the upcoming sequel will act as the conclusive chapter of the series, bringing to an end 8 years of found footage supernatural madness.
In a recent interview with USA Today, here’s what Blum had to say about the franchise’s imminent curtain call, itself debuting alongside the film’s very first teaser, which you can peek between your fingers at above.
“It’s coming to an end. This is it, the finale. We’re saying it before the movie opens. We’re not going to grind this horror franchise into the ground. This will keep Paranormal Activity as part of this culture and this particular time in a really fantastic way. We couldn’t go just teasing. All the questions that everyone has asked from the past Paranormal Activity films – What does Toby look like? What’s the backstory to the families? – These questions have been teased out. Now they will be answered.”
While The Marked Ones diverged from the norm in order to explore the unnerving mythos of the series, Blum is adamant that The Ghost Dimension will bring the story to an end. As the sixth installment in the series, there’s no question that Paranormal Activity is a bona fide horror icon – even venturing into the video game medium – but 2015 appears to be as good a time as any to finally turn off the digital cameras and put the malevolent spirits to rest lest it risk jumping the shark.
Acting as the swan song for the low-key horror juggernaut, Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension will loom into theaters on October 23 in the States.
