With the Xbox One multiplayer beta well underway, Microsoft has debuted a bevy of screenshots from the upcoming Gears of War Ultimate Edition, showcasing Marcus Fenix and his loyal band of space marines locking horns with the Locus threat.

As an overhauled version of the first game in the popular series, Ultimate Edition will run at 1080p/60fps natively on the current-gen console. But if that doesn’t tickle your fancy, fear not, for Microsoft has confirmed plans to bring the upcoming remaster to PC replete with 4K support. Phil Spencer confirmed the news during yesterday’s PC Gaming Show. It was here that the Head of Xbox touched upon the company’s renewed interest in PC platforms, claiming that these ports “are just the beginning for us.”

Spencer’s strategy also encompasses Xbox One launch title Killer Instinct, and it’s understood that Double Helix’s brawler will be dragged kicking and screaming onto Windows 10 later this year.

As for Gears, The Coalition hasn’t necessarily ruled out the possibility of re-releasing other entries in the series, but for the meantime, Gears of War Ultimate Edition will launch for Xbox One on August 25. No word yet on the PC due date, but we’ll update this post when we learn more.
