During their blitz at E3, Treyarch Studios gave fans a small taste of what to expect from Call of Duty: Black Ops III‘s revamped multiplayer. The studio held a detailed presentation on the various changes and improvements made to their latest effort in the popular shooter, and whether you’re a fan or not, many of these changes mark a positive direction for the series.
What was hammered home throughout the short presentation was the fact that fluidity of movement was an integral focus during development. Treyarch didn’t want to hamper the player’s experience, and wanted to do everything it could to improve it. That meant making sure that it was easy to move throughout each environment, without having to stop, lower one’s gun and risk being killed. After all, a moment can be a lifetime in Call of Duty.
To achieve this goal, the team inserted a set of new mechanics which really do improve things.
[zerggaming]First, they made infinite sprint a mainstay instead of a perk-based luxury. Next, they made it easier to approach and climb over obstacles without losing grip of one’s ability to shoot. What is really neat, though, is that Call of Duty: Black Ops III will now include the ability to wall run – something that we got used to doing in Titanfall.
While it took a bit of time for us to get acclimatized to wall-running in a Call of Duty game, it felt natural. Not only that, but it made the experience more engaging, as well as more fluid. That was aided by the fact that we never lost the ability to shoot, even while running across a wall. Hell, we could even change direction if we wanted to.
