The Witcher III: Wild Hunt may be gaining near-unanimous approval across the industry with its open-world setting and incredible depth, but long-term fans of Polish developer CD Projekt Red still harbor some hope for the studio’s mysterious Cyberpunk 2077, though the title quickly went dark following its announcement in 2012.

Now, three years later and shortly after the overly successful debut of Wild Hunt, the studio is remaining mum on any potential developments on the long-gestating title, and even went so far as to say that there won’t be any updates for 2077 until at least 2017 as the development team double down on The Witcher III: Wild Hunt and its post-launch DLC.

In an interview with Reuters, the company’s Chief Executive Adam Kicinski levelled on the status of Cyberpunk 2077, and why the intriguing, Blade Runner-esque title has bigger potential than CD Projekt Red first realized.

We hope and we are certain that Cyberpunk has even bigger commercial potential. It is too early to talk about it, though. This year, and the next one will be the years of the Witcher.

With 2015 and now 2016 dedicated to the progress of The Witcher III: Wild Hunt, it will be some time yet before we learn more of the studio’s new IP. As for Geralt of Rivia’s latest outing, there have been some technical bugs threatening to overshadow the title’s success. Performance issues and graphical glitches have raised their ugly head in Wild Hunt, and the game’s latest patch – 1.03 – is now live for European consoles following its debut on PC. It’s expected to make its bow in the States sooner rather than later.

What do you make of CD Projekt Red’s approach with Cyberpunk 2077, though? Is this a case The Last Guardian Syndrome? Give us your thoughts below.
