Justin Kurzel’s rendition of Macbeth has today produced two all-new clips that show Michael Fassbender’s titular character charge into battle.

Featuring little-to-no dialogue – unless you count barbaric screaming – the footage is nothing if not stylish, with Kurzel orchestrating parts of the fight sequence in slow motion, making for a dramatic and haunting scene amplified by the low-lying mist. In tandem with the war footage was a clip showcasing Fassbender’s coronation as the ruling king, aided by his wife and partner-in-crime Lady Macbeth (played here by Marion Cotillard).

Given Kurzel’s rather excellent, hard-hitting Snowtown, it was inevitable that the director’s rendition of Macbeth would be dripping with atmosphere, and these recently-released clips are a testament to that method of approach.

Joining Fassbender and Cotillard for the period drama are Sean Harris, Paddy Considine, David Thewlis, Jack Reynor, and Elizabeth Debicki. Macbeth has been penciled in for a release in the UK on October 8, meaning those in the States can expect a release in and around the same window.

Without further ado, you can check out the visceral new clips down below.

Macbeth is the story of a fearless warrior and inspiring leader brought low by ambition and desire. A thrilling interpretation of the dramatic realities of the times and a reimagining of what wartime must have been like for one of Shakespeare’s most famous and compelling characters, a story of all-consuming passion and ambition set in war torn 11th Century Scotland.
