Turn back now if you want to avoid potential spoilers for next year’s Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice and 2017’s Wonder Woman.

Scoopster extraordinaire Umberto Gonzalez has brought us some killer reports on the latest and greatest in superhero cinema over the past few months, with such a degree of accuracy that most comic-book aficionados trust him instinctively.

Today, the former Latino Review staffer – who is starting up his own site, called Heroic Hollywood – is spreading some hot gossip about Warner Bros.’ and DC Comics’ upcoming Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice and Wonder Woman, in which Gal Gadot will portray the Themysciran princess. According to Gonzalez, there’s more to the character than meets the eye – despite appearances, the DC Cinematic Universe’s version of the character is actually very old.

The scoopster says that there are pictures of the character glimpsed in Batman V Superman that are more than a hundred years old, meaning that the studios are not abiding by her New 52 incarnation, which has the character at around 23. Older takes on Wonder Woman had her be thousands of years old, dating back to ancient Greece.

What’s really interesting about all this is the sudden possibility that Patty Jenkins’ Wonder Woman movie could be a period piece, charting the origins of the character in ancient times. That would certainly be an unusual turn for the still embryonic DC Cinematic Universe, which has only sent one film (Man of Steel) into theaters thus far but grounded it in modern times with a gritty, visceral tone. Regardless, we’ll definitely find out more about whether Wonder Woman’s stand-alone pic could shift back in time when it rolls cameras this fall.

Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice arrives March 25, 2016, and Wonder Woman is set for June 23, 2017.
