Though many assumed it signalled the introduction of co-op support at first, Rocksteady’s novel Dual Play mechanic allows players to control multiple characters throughout the course of combat in Batman: Arkham Knight, and it’s a feature that takes center stage in the threequel’s latest trailer.
Starring Batman and Nightwing, the footage comes as part of the studio’s Arkham Insider video series. Before today, the creative team merely hinted at the aforementioned mechanic, but now, they’re diving in unabated. Narrated by Lead AI Programmer Tim Hanagan, the video showcases the ways in which players will be able to team up with fellow crime fighters in order to execute powerful double takedowns. The Arkham series is lauded for its excellent, overly satisfying fighting system, and we’re hoping this novel addition only bolsters that reputation.
Batman: Arkham Knight may have persevered through two lengthy delays, but Rocksteady’s anticipated trilogy-capper is fast-approaching its June release date. Last week we learned more about the talent behind the pixels, with Twilight‘s Ashley Greene and Jonathan Banks of Better Call Saul and Breaking Bad fame rounding out the game’s stellar voice cast. They’ll joining series stalwarts Troy Baker, Tara Strong and Kevin Conroy in the recording booth, who voice Two Face, Harley Quinn and The Caped Crusader, respectively.
It’s been a long time coming, but fans of Rocksteady’s superhero series are within touching distance of Batman: Arkham Knight, which is scheduled to swoop onto PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC on June 23.
