Despite the lack of solid third-party releases, the Nintendo Wii U has been on a roll over the past few months. The good times look to continue into 2015, too, as NIS America has announced that they will be bringing Rodea the Sky Soldier to North America and Europe later this year.
Set to be released on both the Wii U and Nintendo 3DS, Rodea centers around the titular machine soldier. 1,000 years prior to the start of this adventure, Rodea made a promise to Princess Cecilia that he would protect the sky kingdom of Garuda from the Naga Empire. After being awakened and repaired by a young inventor named Ion, Rodea learns that Garuda has lived in peace for the past 1,000 years. Shortly after awakening, though, the forces of the Naga Empire return, and Rodea must honor his promise once again.
Featuring colossal battles set in the skies, Rodea the Sky Soldier is a combination of aerial combat and adventure platforming. Each mission will see Rodea face off with the Naga Empire in acrobatic and soaring battles across the sky and on the ground. Gears and Gravitons can also be collected in each level, which Ion can use in order to upgrade the various components of Rodea.
Coming from the mind of Yuji Naka (Nights into Dreams, Sonic Adventure) and Zin Hasegawa, Rodea the Sky Soldier has had a relatively troubled release. Originally set to drop on the Nintendo Wii, publisher Kadokawa Games has sat on the title since 2012. In fact, the Japanese release of the title, which is set for April 2, will come with the original Wii version packed-in.
Rodea the Sky Soldier is currently slated to hit store shelves and the Nintendo eShop this fall. Any interest out there in the latest effort from Yuji Naka and the team at PROPE? Let us know what you think in the comments section below.
