As part of IGN’s month-long coverage of Bloodborne, the outlet is gradually peeling back the layers of From Software’s upcoming PS4 exclusive week by week.
A few days ago, the spotlight was shifted to the game’s savage weaponry, with everything from dual-wielding pistols to elongated scythes lining your arsenal. On this occasion, though, the latest promo for the RPG comes in the form of a story trailer, which teases the dark and foreboding mysteries of the game’s setting, Yharnam.
Offering but a hint of Bloodborne‘s overarching narrative, it appears as though players will step into the shoes of an outsider, tasked with ridding the supernatural forces that plague the city. Featuring some truly nightmarish creatures and odd, psychedelic dream sequences, the trailer does a good job of establishing the gothic tone of From’s Souls successor. There’s also some new information pertaining to some of the boss battles players can look forward to, alongside appearances from NPCs.
Ever since From Software first lifted the curtain on its action RPG, the community has likened it to Capcom’s Resident Evil 4, and for good reason. It’s not just the demonic villagers that bears semblance to the seminal horror title, but also the emphasis on action in the moment-to-moment gameplay, which not only changes the pace quite significantly, but also sets the game apart from its prestigious Souls heritage.
Bloodborne is scheduled to launch exclusively for PlayStation 4 on March 24 and March 25 in North America and Europe, respectively. For now, you can let us know whether you’re looking forward to the horrifying RPG through the comments below.
