After a successful string of appearances at several major film festivals last year, Spring looks poised to win over the hearts and minds of horror fans when it lands in theaters next month. And, ahead of its forthcoming release, a brand new trailer has arrived (via Collider) that looks set to prove that traveling can be hazardous to one’s health.
Set in the sunny and sinister locale of Italy, the film stars Lou Taylor Pucci as Evan. A young American reeling with grief after his mother’s death, he opts to go on a backpacking trip around Europe. The intoxicating sense of adventure leads him to meet Louise (Nadia Hilker), an exotic beauty, who whisks him off his feet. Their burgeoning romance intensifies until Evan realizes she may have a more problematic skeleton in her closet than most girlfriends.
Spring directors Justin Benson and Aaron Moorehead are building a solid reputation for delivering out-of-the-box features. The sterling Resolution bowled over critics for its bizarre recipe of drama and horror, and judging by early critical word, so will Spring. Our own Matt Donato caught it at Fantastic Fest last September, and ended his glowing review with the following sign off:
Spring challenges all previous and future competition as the most beautiful film of 2014, presenting a spectacularly acted and ferociously rambunctious horror hybrid that makes Nicholas Sparks adaptations look like child’s play. Benson and Moorhead have created a perfect date movie for all the horror lovers who are subjected to abysmal Hollywood romcoms that regurgitate nothing but the same formulaic bullshit by way of chiseled shirtless studs and makeout sessions in the rain.
Spring opens in theaters and VOD on March 20th.
