The first trailer for Clint Eastwood’s war drama, American Sniper, dropped before the first round of reviews. Now that the initial critical opinions are in – they’re mostly mixed – the second attempt to rev up audiences for the pic has arrived in the shape of a new full-length trailer and clip.
Eastwood’s latest pits Bradley Cooper’s Navy SEAL Chris Kyle against the enormity of his war-time experiences. A gifted marksmen, Kyle’s reputation for accuracy ripples through the military, but its true impact presents itself when he returns home.
Much like the previous trailer, this new take packs in the action and the familial drama that Kyle grapples with upon reuniting with his wife (Sienna Miller.) A look into the psyche of soldiers drafted to fight and the repercussions of those life-changing experiences, the flick has been criticized for its lack of versatility. However, Cooper’s portrayal of the Texan has thus far been highly praised, with some even dubbing it the actor’s finest performance to date. At this point, it’s interesting to ponder on what Spielberg would have made of the script, if he’d remained attached.
Before American Sniper opens in theaters on December 25th, catch a glimpse at Cooper’s turn in the new trailer above.
U.S. Navy SEAL Chris Kyle is sent to Iraq with only one mission: to protect his brothers-in-arms. His pinpoint accuracy saves countless lives on the battlefield and, as stories of his courageous exploits spread, he earns the nickname “Legend.” However, his reputation is also growing behind enemy lines, putting a price on his head and making him a prime target of insurgents. He is also facing a different kind of battle on the home front: striving to be a good husband and father from halfway around the world.
Despite the danger, as well as the toll on his family at home, Chris serves through four harrowing tours of duty in Iraq, personifying the spirit of the SEAL creed to “leave no one behind.” But upon returning to his wife, Taya Renae Kyle (Sienna Miller), and kids, Chris finds that it is the war he can’t leave behind.
