According to a statement released by Microsoft, Xbox One is closing down on 10 million units shipped to retailers as the company approaches the all-important holiday period.
In fact, the company went so far as to say that sales of the hardware have “skyrocketed” in the wake of $50 price cut at the beginning of the month, which reduced the asking price across different Xbox One bundles that included the likes of the Sunset Overdrive and 1TB Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare packages.
As such, the standalone console sans Kinect is now available for $349 in the States which, according to Yusuf Mehdi, Microsoft’s corporate vice president of devices and studios, positions the company in a tantalizing spot for the competitive festive season.
“The response to this wave of blockbuster game releases and new bundles has been amazing, and sales have skyrocketed since the new price took effect on Nov. 2. Compared to the previous week, Xbox One sales in the US have more than tripled, which is exciting as more and more friends will be playing together this holiday.
“As we head into the busy holiday season Xbox One led generation 8 console sales in the US for the past two weeks. Shortly, we will have sold in to retailers more than ten million Xbox One consoles.”
With Halo: The Master Chief Collection, Forza Horizon 2 and Insomniac Games’ aforementioned shooter toplining the console’s roster of exclusives, there’s no doubting that the Xbox One is poised to pick up a considerable amount of sales following the recent price drop.
In fact, as of September 30th, sales of PlayStation 4 came in at approximately 13.5 million, which hints that the Xbox One could reach parity with Sony’s system by the early stages of 2015 thanks to its enticing price point and selection of exclusives. Time will tell.
