Though filming is already underway on Unlocked – an upcoming thriller from director Michael Apted (The World Is Not Enough) – casting is still taking place, with Academy Award nominees John Malkovich and Toni Collette joining the production, which already stars actress Noomi Rapace (The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo) for what promises to be an action-packed drama.
Written by Peter O’Brien (who previously made the short film, Self Storage), the plot centres on a woman who finds her career as a CIA interrogator causing problems with potentially deadly consequences, as she discovers she has unintentionally shared secret information with terrorists who intend to use it to launch a biological attack on London. Michael Douglas and Orlando Bloom are also already signed on for roles in the project.
The film is currently packaged for sale at the American Film Market by sales and financing company Bloom. Alex Walton, representing the company, explained the significance of the latest casting choices:
“We are thrilled to have John and Toni’s unmatchable talent join our already outstanding cast. This additional calibre, combined with our fresh and smart European script, models a unique and dynamic package that is bound to excite audiences worldwide.”
In addition to the stellar cast, the most exciting prospect from this production is undoubtedly the fact that it will see a female lead character in a position normally reserved for standard alpha-male types. Lead actress Noomi Rapace has demonstrated repeatedly – in the trilogy of films adapted from Stieg Larsson’s ‘Girl’ series, and also in Ridley Scott’s Prometheus – that she can fill the cinema screen with complex and fascinating performances. Add John Malkovich, Toni Collette, Michael Douglas and Orlando Bloom to that talent cocktail, and Unlocked instantly becomes a film to watch for.
