Atlus U.S.A. announced today that their throwback RPG, Citizens of Earth, has been delayed until January 20th, 2015. Previously scheduled for release later this month, the digital-only title will launch for the PlayStation 4, Nintendo Wii U, PlayStation Vita, Nintendo 3DS and Windows PC.
Heavily influenced by Nintendo’s classic EarthBound, Citizens of Earth places gamers into the shoes of the newly-elected Vice President of the World. After a drawn out candidacy, the VP returns to his hometown in order for some rest and relaxation. Upon waking up the next morning, however, he finds out that the world has gone crazy. In his quest to figure out what’s happened, the VP will assemble a task force of 40 unique citizens in order to save the day.
While the delay is disappointing, hopefully this gives developer Eden Industries more time to fine tune their product. This is only the studio’s second title, and their first release, Waveform, wasn’t even in the same genre as this one. I generally trust what Atlus U.S.A. tends to publish, though, so hopefully everything turns out okay here.
We will continue to have coverage of Citizens of Earth in the lead-up to its January 2015 release date, so stay tuned.
