After enough rumors and speculation to sink a ship, Disney has revealed that the official title for the seventh episode of Star Wars will be Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
News comes by way of the film’s official Twitter account, which announced the news only a few days after filming on the project officially wrapped up.

Now comes the fun part where the Internet weighs in on what The Force Awakens could possibly mean. Interestingly, it looks as though the sequel has dropped the numerical label that the original films adhered to, instead opting for a plain and simple title. That’s most likely down to the fact that, with a new Star Wars film arriving every year after 2015, the moviegoing audience might feel a bit jaded asking for a ticket to see Star Wars: Episode 17.
Nevertheless, The Force Awakens hints at a whole new allegiance of Jedis coming to the forefront after the events of Episode VI. But given that the titular energy is a two-sided coin, it’s almost inevitable that Episode VII will seed the origin of a brand new big bad, one that will have to fill the formidable shoes of one Darth Vader.
Star Wars: The Force Awakens has been scheduled to release on December 18th, 2015. It will star Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson, Max von Sydow, Lupita Nyong’o, Gwendoline Christie, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher and Mark Hamill.
With the official title now out in the ether, surely it’s only a matter of time before we see the first footage for Star Wars: The Force Awakens, right? Regardless, we’ll have all the news for you right here as it appears. But for now, head on down to the comments section and let us know what you think the moniker implies.
