During their Nintendo Direct event today, the company revealed that turn-based strategy title Code Name: STEAM will launch for the Nintendo 3DS and 2DS in Spring 2015. The new IP comes courtesy of Fire Emblem and Advance Wars developer Intelligent Systems.
Set in an alternate version of 19th century London that has embraced elements of steampunk culture, Code Name: STEAM focuses on a unique team of soldier tasked with defending the Earth from an alien invasion. Brought together by Abraham Lincoln, the team consists of a handful of interesting warriors, including the likes of Tom Sawyer and Tiger Lily. Yes, that Tom Sawyer and that Tiger Lily from Peter Pan.
Much like Intelligent Systems’ most popular works, the title features a combination of turn-based strategy and third-person shooter gameplay. Unlike the Fire Emblem franchise, however, permadeath will not be a factor here. As much as I love that series, this is music to my ears because I am terrible at strategy games. With it’s cel-shaded graphics and absurd plot, the game should have no trouble standing out in a crowded 2015 Nintendo 3DS release slate.
