We reported this morning that Keira Knightley had been thrown into the ring for the female lead in HBO’s True Detective season two. Now, Variety‘s sources say that Rachel McAdams has been offered the much-coveted role.
McAdams has been in the running for the part for some time now. Since the earliest rumours fired up concerning the major female part, she was touted to be the network’s prime candidate. While it’s stated that she has been offered – but not yet accepted – the role, this surely knocks out the slew of other actresses keen to nab the part.
Today’s news now indicates that despite an apparent scheduling conflict standing in the way of her commitment to Detective, McAdams is likely re-arrange her slate. After all, this is one of the hottest shows on the box right now. If she opts to take it, she’ll shoot Detective this fall, followed by Southpaw and Cameron Crowe’s next feature in 2015.
Another actor also rumoured is Taylor Kitsch, who the outlet also reports: “is also expected to land the role of the fourth lead.” This news comes hot off the back of this week’s announcements that Colin Farrell and Vince Vaughn had bagged the two male leads. Should McAdams be confirmed for the part, she’ll co-star opposite Farrell’s troubled cop, and Vaughn’s career criminal. The ensemble will be directed by Fast & Furious helmer Justin Lin, who is officially onboard to direct the show’s first two episodes. Show creator Nic Pizzolato is currently scripting the eight-part series, which revolves around three cops and a criminal dealing with the aftermath of a murder.
