Long before he was making sly comments to Mr. Stark in the Iron Man films and morphing into a physical presence as The Vision in next year’s Avengers: Age of Ultron, J.A.R.V.I.S. — or, rather, the inspiration for him — harkens back quite some time. All the way back to post-war America, in fact, where one Edward Jarvis served as the loyal butler for Howard Stark.
And today, that role has been filled by Cloud Atlas’ James D’Arcy for Marvel’s upcoming series, Agent Carter. Described as an integral part of Peggy Carter’s team, Jarvis will surely lend a helping hand in the nascent days of the S.H.I.E.L.D., with Hayley Atwell’s heroine serving as one of the proverbial foundations upon which the spy oorganizationwas built back in 1946.
D’Arcy also joins recent recruits Chad Michael Murray and Enver Gjokaj, who joined the line-up as S.H.I.E.L.D. agents Jack Thompson and Daniel Sousa, respectively.
Agent Carter is expected to premiere mid-way through the television season during Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D.’s planned break — not before Miss. Carter makes a cameo appearance with Coulson and co., of course.

“Marvel’s Agent Carter,” starring Captain America’s Hayley Atwell follows the story of Peggy Carter. It’s 1946, and peace has dealt Peggy Carter a serious blow as she finds herself marginalized when the men return home from fighting abroad. Working for the covert SSR (Strategic Scientific Reserve), Peggy must balance doing administrative work and going on secret missions for Howard Stark all while trying to navigate life as a single woman in America, in the wake of losing the love of her life–Steve Rogers. Inspired by the feature films “Captain America: The First Avenger” and “Captain America: The Winter Soldier,” along with the short “Marvel One-Shot: Agent Carter.”
