During Sony Computer Entertainment’s pre-Tokyo Game Show press conference earlier today, Capcom debuted the first trailer for the recently announced remastering of the original Resident Evil. A remaster of a remaster, the title will be available on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Windows PC when it launches in early 2015.
In the footage shown, we are once again transported back to the zombie-infested mansion that plagued a generation of gamers nightmares back in 1996. Chris Redfield, Jill Valentine, Barry Burton and the entire STARS team will be back in action, only this time with updated professional voice acting. While I’ll certainly miss the hokey charms of the original Resident Evil voice acting, this update is most certainly for the better.
While the original GameCube remaster of Resident Evil was already pretty sharp looking, the visuals on display here are a noticeable step up in quality. To go along with the upgrade in visuals, the game will be playable in 16:9 widescreen, which is more in line with modern gaming titles. For a more traditional experience, however, Capcom is also including the original 4:3 aspect ratio.
We will continue to bring you the latest news on the Resident Evil remaster in the lead-up to its 2015 release date. In the meantime, why not take a look at the trailer and let us know your thoughts? Are you impressed with the footage? Or do you think Capcom could be doing a better job?
