Showtime has released a new teaser this week for their upcoming drama series The Affair, which stars Dominic West (300, The Wire) and Ruth Wilson (Luther, Saving Mr. Banks).
The intriguing new show tells the tale of an extramarital affair from two different perspectives, that of West and Wilson’s characters. How their memories of past events differ serves as the framework of the series, which can drastically help it stand apart from more conventional dramas on television.
While the new trailer doesn’t offer up many details about the show’s plot, it does illustrate how the perspectives of the leads will be communicated to the audience and effectively piques our interest.
West and Wilson are joined by ER actress Maura Tierney and Fringe alum Joshua Jackson, who play their respective wronged spouses. Created by Hagai Levi (In Treatment) and Sarah Treem (House of Cards), The Affair debuts on October 12th, 2014.

At once deeply observed and intriguingly elusive, THE AFFAIR explores the emotional effects of an extramarital relationship. Noah (West) is a New York City schoolteacher and novelist who is happily married, but resents his dependence on his wealthy father-in-law. Alison (Wilson) is a young waitress trying to piece her life and marriage back together in the wake of a tragedy. Set in Montauk at the end of Long Island, the provocative drama unfolds separately from both the male and female perspectives, using the distinct memory biases of both to tell the story.
