Warner Brothers Has Hired Two Writers To Pen An Aquaman Movie

While Marvel is busy exploring the cosmic side of its cinematic universe, Warner Brothers is taking to the seas with theirs. We know that Aquaman will have a brief cameo in Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice (and that he'll most likely be played by Jason Momoa), and now we have word that Warner Bros. is aggressively developing a solo film for the super-powered Atlantean.

While Marvel is busy exploring the cosmic side of its cinematic universe, Warner Brothers is taking to the seas with theirs. We know that Aquaman will have a brief cameo in Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice (played, unofficially, by Jason Momoa), and now we have word that Warner Bros. is aggressively developing a solo film for the super-powered Atlantean.

According to THR, the studio has hired two writers to pen two different script treatments for Aquamanand will pick whichever version the producers like best.

Personally, I couldn’t be happier about the news that Aquaman is getting his own solo film… but I could be a bit happier about the writers they’ve chosen to make it happen. In one corner, we have Will Beall, who wrote Gangster Squad and a Justice League script that the studio reportedly hated and scrapped. In the other corner, we have Kurt Johnstad, who penned 300, 300: Rise of an Empire and Act of Valor.

If you ask me, Johnstad is the better choice here. That’s not to say that Beall can’t turn in an excellent script for Aquaman, but his track record with the studio hasn’t exactly been good. Maybe WB didn’t like what he did with Justice League, but loved whatever he wrote for Aquaman in that film?

At this point in time, the studio has made no comment on the news. We also still have no idea when Aquaman could hit theaters, though it will certainly be one of the nine untitled DC films slated for release between 2016 and 2020.

Tell us, what do you think of this news? Are you happy to hear that we’re finally going to get an Aquaman movie? Whose draft do you think will come out on top? Sound off in the comments below!
