After 2012’s Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded, rapper Nicki Minaj largely cooled her jets in terms of hit-making, taking a break to serve as a judge on American Idol and then to appear in The Other Woman. However, the singer/songwriter is about to reclaim the spotlight, with her third album The Pink Print due to drop this year.
Recently, Minaj unveiled a new song titled Anaconda, complete with a probably NSFW album cover. Sampling Sir Mix-A-Lot’s classic Baby Got Back, the lewd track makes gleeful comparisons between the male anatomy and French architecture, references romaine lettuce and generally revels in all sorts of dirty-minded madness. Take a listen below, via Spotify, and take in that album artwork as well:
Additionally, Minaj has teamed up to remix Beyonce’s Flawless, a track that, in typical Queen B fashion, arrived online suddenly, with no advance buzz. The Starships singer’s verse finds her spouting lines like “winning is my motherf—ing protocol,” a stark contrast to the spoken-word cameo by Nigerian author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie on the original track. It’s debatable whether anyone wanted or needed a Flawless remix, but at least the song addresses that now-infamous elevator fight between Beyonce, husband Jay-Z and sister Solange Knowles.
Be on the lookout for Minaj’s latest album later this year. The artist has announced her intention to incorporate more traditional hip-hop aspects on The Pink Print, as opposed to the more pop-influenced feel of Roman Reloaded, so hopefully she’ll be able to supply some interesting wordplay. Other singles from the upcoming release include Lookin Ass and Pills N Potions, both of which have received a fair amount of play already.
