You may recognize her from Lars and the Real Girl or her stint as Jack Donaghy’s girlfriend on 30 Rock, and now Emily Mortimer has possibly landed what many actors would consider an incredible career highlight.
Deadline is reporting that Mortimer did a series of readings and has now been extended an offer for the female lead in Aaron Sorkin’s new pilot for HBO, which currently has the working title of “More as the Story Develops.” As one of the greatest writers in Hollywood, there is no way to go wrong with a Sorkin project.
Mortimer will play Mackenzie McHale, the new executive producer of a cable news show hosted by a charismatic, egotistical anchor – and Mackenzie’s ex-lover – Will McAllister, a role that belongs to Jeff Daniels.
It was previously reported that Marisa Tomei was in negotiations for the role but it is believed that they fell through due to scheduling conflicts with her upcoming film, Lucky Them.
Also in the cast are Alison Pill and Olivia Munn. The pilot is being directed by Paul helmer, Greg Mottola and is hopeful of a full series run in 2012.
