It’s really only fitting that the most popular a capella group in America should land a role in the world’s most highly anticipated a capella comedy. That’s right – Pentatonix just locked down a supporting role in next year’s Pitch Perfect 2.

The five-person ensemble, which won a season of NBC’s The Sing-Off and found chart success soon after, will have a small role as a rival group to the Barden Bellas. It sounds like their part in Pitch Perfect 2 is more of a cameo than anything – the group spent just one day on the sequel’s Baton Rouge, Louisiana, set. Intriguingly, during their visit, members Scott Hoying, Mitch Grassi, Avi Kaplan, Kirstie Maldonado and Kevin Olusola got the full makeup and wardrobe treatment.

“We’re wearing some pretty interesting thing. You can definitely tell it’s the five of us, but what we’re wearing and who we’re portraying is definitely not Pentatonix,” said Hoying.

Though Pentatonix doesn’t have any lines in the movie, the group did arrange its own song, which Hoying promises will boast “the Pentatonix sound.” He explained:

“They gave us a song, and we arranged it and sent it back, expecting them to say, ‘You need to change this, this, and this.’ But they came back and said, ‘Great, that’s it!’ That was really cool.”

Universal Pictures hit all the right notes with 2012’s Pitch Perfect, a collegiate a capella comedy that broke out to earn $113 million at the box office and simultaneously dominate the music charts. After that kind of runaway success, a sequel is always inevitable, and we’ll be getting one next year in the form of Pitch Perfect 2.

Anna Kendrick, Skylar Astin, Rebel Wilson, Anna Camp, Brittany Snow, Ben Platt, Adam DeVine, Ester Dean, Alexis Knapp, Kelley Jakle, Shelley Regner, Elizabeth Banks and John Michael Higgins are all reprising their roles in the sequel, which will include new additions Hailee Steinfeld and Chrissie Fit as new additions Emily and Flo, and Katey Sagal as Emily’s mother. YouTube star Flula Borg also has a part. Banks is sitting behind the camera to make her directorial debut, and Kay Cannon again wrote the script.

Pitch Perfect 2 will sing its way into theaters on May 15th, 2015.
