A new entry in the Mortal Kombat franchise may be on its way. That is, if a leaked poster is to be believed. Featuring the iconic dragon logo and the phrase, “Who’s Next?” this poster (seen below) appears to confirm that the popular franchise will indeed be returning soon. Its backdrop also provides a hint at an impending sequel, as the image of a shattered spine is reminiscent of the last game’s bone-shattering X-ray attack cam.
This is not the first time that rumours of a new instalment have leaked, as at last year’s San Diego Comic-Con, Mortal Kombat Legacy producer Lance Sloane let it slip that NetherRealm Studios was working on a new entry in the series. Going further, 24 star Kiefer Sutherland has also mentioned that he had a part to play in the in-development project.
If more evidence pertaining to this poster’s legitimacy is what you’re looking for, NetherRealm Studios’ Ed Boon has not only been tweeting cryptic messages about the return of the series over the past few weeks, but has now also changed his Twitter icon to the image of the dragon that is seen at the bottom of this banner. His Twitter background image also features the same, “Who’s Next?” phrase.
Boon had been counting down to a June 2nd reveal, but it appears that the cat may be out of the bag now. Perhaps we’ll hear more at E3?
