Though it’s been available in Europe for a little over two months by now, Sony confirmed today that the PS Vita Slim will launch across North America on May 6th alongside the handheld port of Borderlands 2.
Priced at $199, the limited edition bundle will include the console itself, a digital copy of Borderlands 2 and an 8GB memory card — not to mention the hardware’s built-in 1GB of storage. It’s worth keeping in mind, though, that the stand alone version of Gearbox Software’s open-world RPG won’t hit retail stores until May 16th.
In bringing Borderlands 2 to the Vita, the studio has also jammed in six DLC packs. Specifically, two of the add-ons will be story-centric, thereby introducing players to the Captain Scarlett and Her Pirate’s Boot as well as Mr. Torgue’s Campaign of Carnage mission threads. In addition, users can also expect the Mechromancer and Psycho character class, too.
It’s understood that the game will be compatible with cross-save, meaning you can pick up your console save and explore the vast expanses of Pandora on the go. That said, Gearbox hasn’t confirmed a launch date for other territories outside of the US; though it seems safe to assume a May 2014 release for Europe et al.
In terms of the all-new hardware, the revised iteration of Sony’s handheld was originally unveiled back at Tokyo Game Show. At 20% thinner and 15% lighter than its predecessor, the PlayStation Vita Slim is essentially a streamlined version of its immediate counterpart. What’s more, the new model also swaps out the OLED screen for a more conventional — and, ultimately, more affordable — LED display.
For now, though, North American readers can expect the Borderlands 2 PlayStation Vita Slim bundle to debut on May 6th, 2014.
