If you’ve never heard of Big Hero 6, you probably aren’t alone. The animated film, set to hit theatres this fall, is being produced by Disney and will be their first animated effort based on a Marvel property.
Set in the fictional city of San Fransokyo, the story centers on a young prodigy named Hiro Hamada and his robot Baymax. The two uncover a criminal plot and must join a team of inexperienced crime fighters, including bike messenger Go Go, sushi chef Wasabi No Ginger, magical-purse carrying barista Honey Lemon, and comic book fanboy/aspiring filmmaker Fred, to put an end to it.
Disney’s been playing things pretty close to the chest on this one, but we now know that comedian and actor T.J. Miller has joined the cast as Fred, and leaked the information himself a month ago without anyone batting an eyelash. Apart from being an amateur filmmaker, Fred has the superhuman ability to turn into a monster called Fredzilla, and “volunteered as a test subject for the robot experiments by Tadashi, then stuck around to help the Tech Lab research team with their projects.”
I’m assuming Fred is the comedic relief in this film, as it would make sense given Miller’s track record. Most may recognize his voice from Cloverfield, where he played camera operator Hud Platt, but he’s also appeared in films like How To Train Your Dragon, Our Idiot Brother and Seeking A Friend for the End of the World. The actor can next be seen in HBO’s Silicon Valley.
Big Hero 6 arrives in theaters on November 7th, 2014. We’ll be sure to keep you posted on any further casting updates as they arirse.
