For North American fans of the Professor Layton series, tomorrow marks an exciting but bittersweet occasion, as Professor Layton and the Azran Legacy, the sixth and confirmed final entry in the popular handheld franchise, will finally release in North America on the 3DS.
Already previously released in Japan and Europe, Azran Legacy serves as the final entry in the second prequel trilogy of the series, wrapping up the story started by Professor Layton and the Last Specter, Professor Layton and the Miracle Mask, and the anime movie Professor Layton and the Eternal Diva. Players will once again control Hershel Layton, as well as longtime assistants Luke and Emmy, in an epic globe-trotting adventure aboard the airship Bostonius to uncover the mystery of the ancient Azran civilization.
As with previous titles in the series, Azran Legacy will feature dozens of puzzles and brainteasers in between its point-and-click styled gameplay, with more being available as free DLC on a daily basis for a year. In addition, StreetPass will be utilized for the first time in a Layton game, with a scavenger hunt-like quest system that players can send to those they swap data with.
As with most Nintendo-published 3DS titles, the game will have a simultaneous launch in stores and on the 3DS eShop.
We will have a review for Professor Layton and the Azran Legacy up shortly. In the meantime, let us know your thoughts on the impending release of what looks to be the professor’s last adventure.
