French stunner Elodie Yung has joined the cast of Alex Proyas’ Gods of Egypt as the goddess Hathor. After raising her profile with a large supporting role in the big-budgeted action blockbuster G.I. Joe: Retaliation, Yung is taking another leap forward with this story about a thief and a god on a magical quest in ancient Egypt. Yung joins an already impressive cast including Gerard Butler, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Chadwick Boseman, Brenton Thwaites and Geoffrey Rush.

Coster-Waldau, newly famous in the United States due to his role as Jamie Lannister in Game of Thrones, plays Horus, the god of the sky. He joins forces with Yung’s goddess of love and a human thief (Thwaites, who may be a big name by the time Gods of Egypt arrives due to his leading performance in this summer’s The Giver) in order to avenge the death of his father, Osiris. Gerard Butler stars as main baddie, Set, the Egyptian god of the desert, storms and foreigners. Set kills Osiris early on, setting into motion the events of the story.

The film is currently in pre-production and will begin to shoot shortly in Sydney, Australia. At this point, it looks like the casting is complete but if we hear of anything more we’ll be sure to let you know.

Gods of Egypt will hit theatres on February 12, 2016. Tell us, are you impressed with how the film is shaping up so far? Are you happy to see Yung taking a role? Let us know in the comments section below.
