When thinking ahead to the highly anticipated Man of Steel sequel (tentatively being called Batman vs. Superman), fans leave no stone unturned when it comes to learning as many details about the film as possible. Plot points and casting announcements are one thing, but we’re also wondering about future plans, filming locations, production dates and of course, costumes. Specifically those for the newly rebooted Batman and the newly introduced Wonder Woman.
We’ve been hearing buzz about Ben Affleck’s batsuit for months now, from “inside sources” who have seen it and from a few people close to Affleck, including friend and longtime collaborator Kevin Smith and his wife, Jennifer Garner.
Garner seems excited about the suit, telling Entertainment Tonight, “I’ve seen the suit. Unbelievably cool. It’s a total reinvention, it looks great.” This coincides with the gushing approval from Smith, who saw a photo of the new suit back in November and called it “mind-blowing.” He recently talked more about the suit on his podcast, Fatman on Batman:
I have seen the suit when I did this Man of Steel/Yahoo fan event when the DVD came out. I was hosting, Zack Snyder was there, Amy Adams, we had Henry Cavill from satellite over in the UK. When the show was all done Zack was like “come here!”. He pulls me over to the corner and he whips out the phone and he shows me a picture of Batman, a live action version of Batman. A very familiar Batman, I might add. Didn’t look like any of the cinematic Batmans that have ever gone before. He shows me that picture and behind Batman…Superman in the suit, looming in the distance. Both on a rooftop set they put together for this photo shoot.
I said “oh my god, that’s the suit? The suit looks amazing, man. What did you get people to model it?” and he goes “that’s your boy” and I look closely and it’s Ben Affleck wearing the suit. The suit… it’s not mine to spill in terms of what it looks like, you’ll see it, they’ll tell you when they want you to know. Any Batman fan is going to be f***ing pleased, I’m going to tell you that right now. Like f***ing beside themselves going holy s*** they did it. It was phenomenal, man and made me happy as hell.
So, what form of the costume will we be seeing that’s so mind-blowingly different than those we’ve seen before? My money is on the grey, fabric suit from the comics, something that’s been replaced with the more armored versions we’ve seen on film. But we’ll just have to wait and see.
Unfortunately, that wait may have been slightly delayed, according to Forbes blogger Mark Hughes. Hughes has been Tweeting for a few weeks now about the suit reveal, earlier this month claiming it would happen “in a matter of days.” Now, he has retracted that statement, claiming it won’t happen until early next month.
“The delay in start of filming might push it back a tad, but I’m hearing it may drop as originally planned in next 10 to 12 days… FYI I’m hearing the bat-suit reveal is likely pushed back a bit due to the delay in filming. That’s not confirmed, but I trust the info… The upside is, the reveal sounds like it’ll be bigger & cooler than previously thought!”
Hopefully Hughes is right, because it would be great to get a glimpse of the suit (hopefully with Affleck wearing it, as opposed to a concept drawing or it on display) some time soon, especially now that the film has been delayed until 2016.
Tell us are you excited for the batsuit reveal? Or would you rather it be a surprise until closer to when Batman vs. Superman releases?
