Gary Oldman and Zac Efron have revealed that they’ve both had meetings for Star Wars: Episode VII. This really shouldn’t surprise anyone though, as just about every actor in Hollywood has taken a meeting with J.J. Abrams. It doesn’t mean that they’ve been cast, nor does it mean that they’re frontrunners for any particular part. It simply means that they’ve sat down for a meeting with Abrams and Disney to discuss potentially joining the film, just like every other big name actor and actress has.
Speaking to Sky Movies (via HeyUGuys), Oldman stated that though the studio has inquired about him joining, he’s a bit cynical about it:
“They’ve called. You know, I’m more cynical about it now. I’ll believe it when I’m on the plane home. The deal isn’t done, but yeah, they’ve inquired. I mean ‘Planet of the Apes,’ ‘Harry Potter,’ Batman, and ‘Star Wars’… bloody hell!” he said.
As for Efron, the actor told MTV that he had a sit down with the producers:
“I just went and met with [producers],” he said to MTV. “So I don’t know. It would be cool. I love [the Star Wars movies], I love them, but … who knows?”
With Star Wars: Episode VII set to release on December 18th, 2015, we likely won’t have official casting news for a while. Ever since the film was announced we’ve heard that this actor and that actor has had a meeting and at this point, it really doesn’t mean anything. It seems like Abrams has no idea who he wants to cast and is just taking meetings with every big name in the industry. Hopefully he’ll settle on someone soon, but I wouldn’t hold my breath.
Tell us, who do you want to see in Star Wars: Episode VII?
