Earlier in the week, news broke that Donal Logue had been offered the lead role of Jim Gordon in Fox’s upcoming series Gotham. Logue instantly denied the rumors, but it’s not uncommon for actors to play dumb when something leaks out. It turns out the original reports were wrong though, and rather than being offered the lead role, Logue might actually play detective Harvey Bullock on the show. This new report comes from Latino Review, who also broke the original story. It turns out that they heard Logue had been offered a role and just assumed it was Gordon.
For those unfamiliar with the character, Bullock is a 40-something year-old cop who has a mixed history with Gordon. In some iterations he serves as a mentor of sorts to the young detective, while at other times he’s tried to sabotage Gordon’s career. It’s still not clear what their relationship will be like on Gotham, or if Bullock will be a recurring character, but we expect to hear more soon.
Casting Logue as Bullock definitely makes more sense than having him play Gordon. From what we’ve heard, the point of this series is to show Gordon in his late 20s during his early days in Gotham. To cast an actor who’s in his late 40s like Logue would be an odd choice, to say the least.
Hearing that Logue won’t play Gordon also means it’s time for the rumor mill to open back up. It’s likely that Fox is going to go with a relatively unknown actor for this role, but who knows, they might be able to nail down a bigger name? I’m not even going to begin to speculate yet, but there should be more reports headed our way shortly regarding who could star in the show.
