Trailer For Eli Roth-Produced Clown Will Get At Your Childhood Fears

I've never been a big fan of anything that Eli Roth has had a hand in making. Cabin Fever is a very silly film where the dumb characters become more and more annoying, while his Hostel movies are just terrible instances of torture porn. That being said, today's trailer for his latest producing project, Clown, has me quite intrigued.

Update: The trailer has been removed at the request of the studio.

I’ve never been a big fan of anything that Eli Roth has had a hand in making. Cabin Fever is a very silly film where the dumb characters become more and more annoying, while his Hostel movies are just terrible instances of torture porn. That being said, today’s trailer for his latest producing project, Clown, has me quite intrigued.

Based on a fake trailer that Roth made a few years back, the upcoming film tells the story of a father who puts on a clown costume for his son’s birthday party only to find that he can’t take it off afterwards due to a curse, which slowly causes him to turn into a killer demon clown.

The real trailer for the film has been released today and surprisingly, it looks like it has a chance of being a decent thriller. As usual, I’m quite skeptical of anything that Roth is involved in, but this time, he is merely back to being a producer, while the film is being directed by Jon Watts (his first theatrical feature) and written by Watts and Christopher D. Ford (Robot & Frank), so perhaps things won’t turn out as bad as when he has complete control over everything, though that didn’t stop the The Last Exorcism films from being just as awful as his directing gigs.

There are plenty of people out there who suffer from an irrational fear of clowns, so this should play pretty well to a general audience. It certainly looks creepy enough. Unfortunately no release date has been set for Clown as of yet, though it is expected to drop sometime in 2014. There’s even a chance we may see it show up at a festival or two before a wider release. Seems like a perfect fit for SXSW, so don’t be surprised if you see it pop up in the lineup.

In the meantime, check out the trailer below and let us know what you think in the comments!
