Jerry Seinfeld and Larry David co-created what is arguably the best sitcom of all time. Since then, they’ve gone their separate ways and have had their own projects of varying success, but nothing as game-changing as Seinfeld. They did reunite briefly for a Seinfeld-centric episode of David’s Curb Your Enthusiasm, and then again later for an episode of Seinfeld’s excellent web series Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee, but otherwise their collaboration has been fairly minimal. Until now. In a Reddit AMA session today, Seinfeld dropped the following bombshell:
“We never obsess over anything that isn’t mundane. Most recent was intentional mumbling. We wrote this script for this thing that you will eventually see but I can’t reveal what it is at this time. All I can do is tell you is that it’s big, huge, gigantic.”
Is it a script for a TV show or a movie? If it’s big, huge, and gigantic, then it sounds more likely to be a movie script. If it were a script for a TV show pilot, though, that would be equally excellent. Either way, these two giants of comedy working together again can’t be anything but a good thing. Seinfeld had some other interesting things to say in his AMA session, too, including criticisms of The Hangover Part III and Man of Steel.
“I was so happy that they made another Superman movie! I’m really reluctant to be critical of it in any way. But I thought the glossing over of the figuring out a secret identity and why he felt he needed one was a huge missed opportunity for that character, and one of the most interesting things about Superman is the whole secret identity. So to me it was too much action / violence and not enough character study.”
So, there you have it: comedy’s most notorious Superman fan was not too thrilled with Zack Snyder’s film. As far as prospects for his own film in the near future, though, let’s hope that his collaboration with Larry David sees the light of day soon.
