UPDATE: The Instagram post has been removed by its poster at the request of Warner Bros.

Fans of hobbitses and Middle-Earth will get to see the highly-anticipated first trailer for Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar when The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug opens in just a few days, but a tiny clip from the preview is already making the rounds online.

It’s pretty low-resolution footage and can most certainly be considered bootlegged, but with the trailer so close at hand, I seriously doubt Warner Bros. will care enough to take it down. The clip only runs a few seconds long and, though it is a very small first look, it does provide a small introduction to Matthew McConaughey’s protagonist.

The muffled audio makes it a little tricky to decipher, but McConaughey’s character is basically discussing the age-old human desire to explore. Disappointingly, it appears that the first trailer for Interstellar is actually more like a teaser trailer, though I don’t know what I was really expecting, with the film still almost a year away. The poster, an Instagram user named letts__, said the following:

The clip that I posted is pretty much the only “actual” footage from the movie in the trailer. It’s about 1 min and 43 secs long, with narration done by Matthews character. Clip from old space missions and launches are playing while he describes the worlds need for exploration.

The marketing team for Interstellar has also unveiled an official banner for the film, which suggests an enlightening discovery in the dark depths of space. Check out a full-sized version below:

The banner looks pretty cool, but we’re likely going to have to wait a while longer (knowing Nolan, that’ll be next November) to find out what it actually means.

Interstellar boasts an all-star cast including Matthew McConaughey, Anne Hathaway, Jessica Chastain, Matt Damon, Casey Affleck, Topher Grace, Bill Irwin, John Lithgow, Wes Bentley, David Oyelowo, Ellen Burstyn and Michael Caine. The film will follow a group of scientists who travel through an inter-dimensional wormhole in hopes of expanding humanity’s knowledge of the universe.
