If you were planning on logging on to your Wii U or 3DS and downloading a game or two off Nintendo’s eShop service today, you’re going to have to wait a bit. Nintendo has confirmed some downtime for the service, which started this morning and will last until later tonight, in the following official tweet:
The Nintendo #eShop will be down for maintenance from 9 AM PT to 8 PM PT.

Having just checked my own Wii U to play a little Super Mario 3D World, I can say that the nifty Miiverse function is still available, and speaking of which, there may be a possibility that this maintenance has something to do with the company’s announcement last month confirming plans to add Miiverse to the 3DS via a system update. No definitive plans regarding a concrete date for the service’s portable launch have been announced, though, so take the idea with a grain of salt.
We will keep you updated on more news regarding the Wii U, 3DS, and eShop as it becomes available.
