Masahiro Sakurai, the creator of the Smash Bros. franchise, revealed today that his team has decided to add a submachine gun item to Super Smash Bros. for the Wii U and 3DS. There is, however, a slight twist to the new projectile weapon that differentiates it from the standard SMG in your favorite shooter — the gun is actually a miniaturized submarine from Steel Diver.
Sakurai revealed the “cute” little Super Smash Bros. sub gun on Nintendo’s Miiverse, confirming that it is indeed from the 3DS game Steel Diver. Additionally, he noted that the item works by launching torpedoes “that fly slowly at first” and then speed up as they approach their target.
Sadly, the above screenshot is the only asset that we currently have of the submarine gun, as Nintendo has not felt the need to release a new trailer of the upcoming fighter for several months.
With Super Smash Bros. currently scheduled to launch for the Wii U and 3DS sometime next year (which means that the game disc is, at most, twelve months away from being lovingly inserted into my Wii U), it should not be too much longer before Nintendo opens the flood gates on Smash Bros. media. We will keep an eye out for any additional information on the game and let you know as soon as anything is officially announced.
