Earlier in the week, Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes creator Hideo Kojima stated that he had a “mind-blowing” reveal for this week’s Sony PlayStation All-Access show. After watching the trailer posted below though, I think that it’s safe to say that we’re all just a bit disappointed.
Coming exclusively to the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3 is a special “Déjà Vu Mission” that will allow gamers to control Solid Snake like they did back in the old PlayStation days. I don’t mean just the original control scheme either. That will be part of it, but you’ll also step into the shoes of the blocky, poorly designed Snake from the original Metal Gear Solid. The rest of the mission will look as crummy as you do, so no need to worry about that.
Look, I understand that the Metal Gear franchise has a long and storied history with the PlayStation family. Metal Gear Solid brought the series back from the dead and the additional sequels are considered to be some of the best titles for the PlayStation 2 and PlayStation 3. I just wish that Kojima hadn’t made such a huge deal out of this announcement. I had no idea what it was going to be but I expected something just a little bigger than an exclusive mission. I think I speak for MGS fans everywhere when I say that this announcement was pretty underwhelming.
Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes is currently scheduled for release in Spring 2014 and in addition to the PlayStation 4, it will also be released on the PlayStation 3, Xbox One and Xbox 360. The next-gen versions will carry a price of $29.99 while the current gen versions will cost only $19.99.
