The Robocop remake is without a doubt one of my most anticipated movies of 2014. Taking the story and concept of the Paul Verhoeven classic and adding in modern effects, well, that’s the sort of remake I can get behind. So far, the promotion for this one hasn’t disappointed, and despite how exciting the two trailers that we’ve seen are, this new poster that we received today may be my favorite piece yet.
Truthfully, I was a little let down by the first poster that we saw. There wasn’t really anything wrong with it, but it played it too safe. All it did was give us a look at the suit, which looked cool and all, but it didn’t really stand out. I said at that time that I imagined the studio would take a few more risks with their future promotional pieces, and those risks definitely pay off in this new poster.
Just at first glance, it really is an incredible piece of film art, but it gets even better when you look at the details. Everything from the slight reflection on the visor to the sloppy edges of the blue paint come together to make for a remarkable poster. It’s reminiscent of old wartime propaganda, and it doesn’t have the typical studio text bogging it down. It’s definitely one of the best posters that we’ve seen this year.
RoboCop hits theaters February 12th, 2014 and sstars Joel Kinnaman, Gary Oldman, Michael Keaton, Abbie Cornish, and Samuel L. Jackson.
