Here at We Got This Covered, we bring you the biggest movie news every day. It isn’t every day though that we bring you a mere tiptoe of news, but when that tiptoe is about something as big as an R-rated movie for everyone’s favorite Merc with a Mouth, well then it’s definitely worth discussing.
In a recent interview, Ryan Reynolds spoke about the long-awaited Deadpool movie, saying that in the last few weeks the film has take a “few very, very small tiptoes forward.”
In the interview, Reynolds discusses the movie, saying that they’re pitching it to the studio as a low-budget, low-risk project, so they’re able to have the freedom to make it the way it should be made, which means it’ll get an R rating. He admits that it’s a risky project though, partially because it’s so meta, though some of those issues could be simple fixes in the script. He concludes by saying if he’d be willing to place money on the fact this movie will get made at some point in our lifetimes.
I won’t even begin to speculate about what he could be referencing, and I understand that “small tiptoes” don’t really mean anything, but that’s sure better than a giant step backward isn’t it? And if nothing at all had happened, Reynolds would’ve had nothing to say. The fact something happened, and something positive happened, well that’s progress, which is obviously far better than stagnancy in terms of getting this made. They haven’t forgotten about it, and they’re still trying, which is great news in itself.
Obviously this is a film a lot of people want to see, and I’m definitely one of them. Deadpool is a huge fan favorite, and his popularity may be at an all-time high right now due to the success of the video game. I’m not going to pretend this film would have the mass appeal of an X-Men movie, especially if it’s rated R, but if they’re able to make it on a relatively low-budget as Reynolds says, then it really won’t matter.
I do think it’ll appeal to much more than just the hardcore comic-book fans who are so vocal about wanting a film. I don’t have to tell you how insanely popular comic book movies are right now, so even some moviegoers who have never heard of Deadpool are going to be intrigued purely because it’s another comic book movie. It’s got a lot better of a chance for success than a completely unknown movie, so for that reason alone they should feel at least somewhat confident moving forward.
