The Frozen Ground, the feature debut from Scott Walker, tells one of the most haunting tales of mass-murdering America has ever seen. Due to the lack of a wide theatrical release in the U.S., many haven’t had the opportunity to see this crime thriller yet, but fortunately the film is coming to Blu-Ray and DVD this week, affording everyone the opportunity to see what Walker whipped up.
In honor of the film’s release, Lionsgate has provided us with an exclusive deleted scene from the film, which hits store shelves tomorrow.
The Frozen Ground tells the story of Alaskan trooper Jack Holcombe (Nicolas Cage) who’s trying to track down a serial killer behind the brutal rapes, tortures, and murders of a number of young prostitutes. He believes Robert Hansen (John Cusack) is guilty, but none of the other officers on the case are willing to consider it. When Holcome partners with the one of Hansen’s victims who got away, 18-year-old Cindy Paulson (Vanessa Hudgens), he has to find a way to earn enough of Cindy’s trust to get the evidence against Hansen he needs before Hansen has a chance to mow down yet another victim.
This particular scene shows Cusack’s Hansen offering a gift to his wife. Instead of buying it from a jewelry store though, Hansen pulled it straight off of one of his victims. Talk about creepy.
The film is a taut thriller, breaking the mold a bit from traditional serial killer films, but still including many of the elements that make that sub-genre so beloved. It’s a compelling film, and a solid debut from Scott Walker. It’s definitely worth checking out if you haven’t had the opportunity to yet.
The Frozen Ground releases on Blu-ray, DVD and Digital Download on October 1st from Lionsgate Home Entertainment. Check out the deleted scene below, and then head on down to the comments section to share your thoughts on the film.
